Overview
With over eleven years of professional experience in the animal protection movement and at further and higher education institutes, Jasmijn de Boo, currently CEO of
The Vegan Society, offers her knowledge, skills and experience of Education, Campaigns, Research and Policy.

Jasmijn studied Animal Management, Animal Science, Applied Animal Behaviour and Animal Welfare, and completed a postgraduate Certificate in Education. She possesses expertise in several animal issues, including vegan nutrition and health; the use of animals in research, testing and education, and alternative methods; companion animals; farmed animals; and wildlife.

Research & science communication
As a trained animal welfare scientist (MSc), and having completed her BSc thesis in social research, and having provided technical support to research staff in India and Pakistan on working equine welfare studies at the Brooke, Jasmijn is adept at conducting original research, literature reviews and providing technical support to others involved in (ethical) research.

Jasmijn has presented her work at over 30 scientific and animal protection conferences and workshops worldwide. She has published six peer-reviewed scientific articles as first author (available
here), five scientific abstracts, and four scientific posters. She has been invited to review manuscripts for the Journal of Veterinary Medical Education and was a referee for a major grant proposal submitted to the Dutch scientific grant awarding body ZonMW.

Education and community outreach
Jasmijn has over eleven years of experience of strategic and operational international programme development, lecturing, coordinating courses, curriculum and resource development at all levels, didactic innovation, setting questions and marking exams at MSc level, and teacher and staff training. She also possesses knowledge about humane education research and methodologies.

Policy development
In 2006 Jasmijn founded the UK political party ‘
Animals Count’ which she led for four years, and she has developed political policies for local, national and European level elections. She has also developed comprehensive educational policies, such as the International Animal Welfare Education (IN AWE) programme (aimed at embedding AW into formal curricula for the 5-16 age range), whilst at WSPA.

Campaigns & media
Jasmijn has planned and led animal protection campaigns, including political lobbying, liaison with industry and other third parties, and development of communications strategy. She has been interviewed by national radio and TV and interviewed for a range of animal-related magazines. She is creative, and believes that positive and appealing campaigns are more effective than those focusing on negatives.

Programme and management experience
Jasmijn also has over five years of programmatic, management, budget and financial planning experience, and an eye for detail.
