Overview
Medical scientist Vivien Pomfrey began campaigning against the Open University's animal experimentation through its society Students for Ethical Science in the 1990s while studying for her first degree, and became their scientific advisor in 2005 after holding several positions, including Secretary. Since 2002 she has participated in the ongoing development of the UK Green Party's policies on animal experimentation.
Vivien provides freelance, home-based scientific consultancy services to further the abolition of harmful animal experimentation and its replacement with a wide variety of humane methods, and has fulfilled contracts for a number of animal advocacy charities. Her expertise includes humane replacements in both education and research.
Publications
Vivien produced all the 2004 documents on the Students for Ethical Science website and provided most of the text for most of the other documents on the site.
Other information
Vivien has been an ethical vegan since 1983, and is avidly interested in Green, vegan gardening and agriculture, sustainable living, natural medicine (notably nutrition and herbs), nature and science, as well as the psychology of humans and other animals. She has acquired good working knowledge of all these subject areas over many years.
