His expertise includes the contributions to climate change of the livestock sector, animal experimentation, animal use in biomedical education, vegetarian companion animal diets, and the animal welfare standards of veterinarians.

His current field of activity is that of regulatory toxicology and the promotion of modern science to replace animal testing programmes in the European Union.

Katherine van Ekert is a veterinarian based in Australia. As well as working clinically in the animal welfare field, including volunteer work, Katherine is co-founder and President of Sentient: a veterinary-driven animal protection institute, which campaigns on issues such as intensive farming, live animal export, scientific animal use, and companion animal legislation.
