About Animal

I am Andrew Knight,
Director of Animal Consultants International, which I founded in 2004.
It has been my privilege to have worked for the
advancement of animal issues since the early 1990s. I have worked for national and grassroots animal protection organizations in the U.S. and Australia, and been actively involved in animal protection campaigns for nearly all of that time. Consequently, I well understand the strengths and weaknesses of the animal protection movement internationally. While most of those involved have exceptional ethics and compassion for animals, it is also true that
many animal protection campaigns and organizations would benefit
from a level of skill and professionalism historically rare in the nonprofit sector.
In 2003, I joined a small community of very highly qualified and experienced physicians, biologists and animal welfare scientists, consulting or
working fulltime for the
advancement of animal protection issues, in Europe and the U.S. Despite the exceptional ability of these people to assist animal
advocacy campaigns, I was
amazed to discover the small extent to which these abilities were being
effectively utilized by the
international animal protection movement. In many
cases the movement was barely aware of their existence.
Consequently, I
founded Animal Consultants to:
1.
Maximize the accessibility of people with especially valuable
skills or qualifications, to animal protection organizations, projects, and campaigns, worldwide,
for the benefit of all. Such international skill-sharing can only increase
the strength and effectiveness of the animal protection movement.
2.
Maximize the involvement of such
potentially powerful people in animal protection campaigns, by encouraging them to respond to action alerts on important issues, received from time to time via the Animal Consultants email list.
It is my hope that Animal Consultants internationally will play an increasingly important role in
encouraging the rise of ethics and compassion in our relationships with the other sentient creatures with whom we share our world.
